Gene Jackson is one of the world’s finest jazz drummers, and has been a main stay in Tokyo and New York for many years.

Best known for his long relationship with Herbie Hancock as his propulsive drummer during the 90s, Mr. Jackson has continued to grow and nurture his own sound and style.

Jackson was part of the famous Berklee Music School crew that came up in the early 80’s, with the likes of Branford Marsalis, Jeff “Tain” Watts and NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison.

This show at Body & Soul is a tribute to Elvin Jones, featuring one of our favorites pianists on the Tokyo scene, Mayuko Katakura, a strong modern pianist with touches of McCoy Tyner and a splash of Bill Evans. A Tokyo in-demand bassist, (seen recently in Japanese TV advertisements) Pat Glynn, who originally hails from New Jersey, USA will hold the bass lines together with lyricism.

The trio has played together for many years, and they push the modern jazz envelope. A perfect group to pay a tribute to John Coltrane’s great drummer, Elvin Jones.

ジャクソンは、80年代初頭に登場した有名なバークリー音楽学校のメンバーの一人で、ブランフォード・マルサリス、ジェフ "テイン "ワッツ、NEAジャズマスターのドナルド・ハリソンらと一緒に活動していた。

今回のBODY&SOULでのライブは、エルビン・ジョーンズへのトリビュートとして、東京で人気のピアニストの一人、片倉真由子を迎える。

また東京で今最も注目されている、(最近では日本のテレビCMで見かけるようになったが）米国NJ出身のベーシストのパット・グリンが、ベースラインをしなやかにまとめあげる。

このトリオはもう何年も共に活動し、モダンジャズの限界に挑戦し続けている。ジョン・コルトレーンの偉大なドラマー、エルビン・ジョーンズへのトリビュートには申し分のないグループだ。
