Percussionist and tabla player Ko Omura's leader band makes its first appearance at Oh! Jazz.

Ko Omura was born in 1981. He spent his childhood in the U.S. and Australia, and started playing drums in high school. He studied at the University of Sydney and Sydney College of Music, where he won the Billy Hydes Drumcraft drum competition. After returning to Japan, he has been active in a wide range of music from jazz to world music and pops.

This time, he will be performing with his leader band, which includes Shinobu Ishizaki, an experienced saxophonist who graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Tony Suggs, was the pianist for the Count Basie Orchestra for 20 years playing on at least 2 Grammy Nominated recordings, and Keisuke Furuki, a bassist born in 1990 who is very much in demand. This is a remarkable stage where you can enjoy a variety of percussion tones/rhythms with a grain of individuality.

El Sr. Omura nació en 1981 y pasó su infancia en los Estados Unidos y Australia, comenzó a tocar la batería mientras estaba en la escuela secundaria. パーカッショニストでタブラ奏者の大村恒のリーダーバンドがOh!Jazz初登場。

1981年生まれ。幼少期をアメリカ、オーストラリアで過ごし、高校時代からドラムをスタート。シドニー大学とシドニー音楽大学で学び、現地若手の登竜門、ビリー・ハイドス・ドラムクラフト・ドラムコンペティションで優勝。帰国後は、ジャズからワールドミュージック、ポップスまで多岐に渡る活動を展開している。

今回は、ボストンのバークリー音大学院卒の経験豊富なベテランサックス奏者、石崎忍、カウント・ベイシー・オーケストラのピアニストとして12年間活躍し、少なくとも2枚のグラミー賞ノミネート作品に参加したトニー・サッグス、1990年生まれの注目のベーシスト・古木啓祐をリーダー・バンドに迎えて演奏する。粒ぞろいの個性とパーカッションの多彩な音色/リズムを堪能できる注目のステージだ。
