Oh! Jazz Adds Afro-Cuban Rhythms from La Habana
Starting in July, Oh! Jazz adds a window to Afro-Cuban rhythms and the vast talent of Cuban performers in collaboration with the awarded art center Fabrica de Arte Cubano.
Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) is one of Havana's most important performance spaces, art galleries and an excellent laboratory for interdisciplinary creation, with a marked social and community focus that in 2019 was selected among the 100 Best Places in the World by Time magazine. Located in a converted cooking oil factory, FAC has emerged as a symbol of Cuba's growing connection to the world.
Thanks to this collaboration, Oh! Jazz subscribers will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy live performances from this iconic enclave, accessing the rich tapestry of Afro-Cuban sounds and Cuban musical virtuosity on a regular basis.
We are hitting off this collaboration with a great show from the La Habana Jazz Festival by The New York/Cuba Collective. Led and created by Cuban pianist, Yamaha artist, and composer Dayramir González, this special project celebrates the musical spirits of two cities: New York and Havana, with a rich mix of Jazz and Cuban music: Afro Cuban Jazz.
This project features some of the most demanded musicians from today's New York jazz scene. Each of them leaders of their own projects, as well as brilliant composers, arrangers, performers, and improvisers; focusing on original compositions and arrangements in the styles of Bebop, contemporary jazz, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
On Bass James Robbins, Drums Tiago Michelin, Percussion Takafumi Nikaido, and two special guests: Saxophonist and educator Chad Lefkowitz-Brown and maestro Aaron Goldberg on piano/keys.
Sandra Pires Lopes, director of international relations and X Alfonso founder and director at Fabrica de Arte Cubano said: “We are very honored to start this collaboration with the Oh! Jazz platform and thus amplify to the World the artistic quality of the Cuban musicians who live inside and outside the Island.
